POWER : POWER TAP VS CONDITIONER
We tested power taps and active or passive conditioners for more than 25 years and no active conditioner was kept. Only WALKER Velocitor a passive conditioner was sold by PHPAUDIO for some years. Active conditioners uses transformers, coils, magnets, capacitors, sometime exotic solutions (vs science), and from 2 to 80 k€ ! Yes, on electronic measurement instruments, they reduce noise.
Some engineers say that you must use active filter, other say that it is not necessary to filter power that feed an already filtered audio component. Open debate...
The only thing that matters after music emotion, is the measure of power quality after the input treatment inside your electronics. Very few do this, may be none.
Why have we not proposed active conditionneur yet ? because of music. Bass is often bolded, medium polished or a bit forward "presence like demo effect", and highs too sweet. Most of the time, music lost its first quality, transients and tones.
I asked PHPAUDIO manufacturers we represent, and others .. how they listen and develop their gears. They all feed their amplifiers from the wall and 95% power front end with high-end passive power tap.
Power taps must be very rigid (impedance) to prevent from noise due to vibrations, star wiring and of course, premium wiring and outlets. Sometimes, additional solutions are EMI/RFI absorbing material and other passive clever products like tourmaline, silk... and more quantum devices. Boxes are lightly dampened if they are not in wood.
Waiting for the new PRANAWIRE SKY DANCER later in 2021, a more adorable version of the acclaimed PRANAWIRE CLOUD nine, we will launch in May, a European design and made 6 outlets aluminium CNC box, internal wiring of pure cooper or pure silver depending on the version. Sound is neutral, transparent and dynamic. It wins compared to a 5 k€ well known 🇺🇸 conditionner, and on par with a 10 k€ highly regarded 🇯🇵 power tap. Pictures, specs and prices in May.
